Press Samples
Good morning, readers! It's Saint Patrick's Day, but I don't have green nails. I showed last night on Instagram that I am doing a wear test for the OPI Infinite Shine polishes so check out my Facebook Page today for some throwbacks to older St. Patty's Day nails.
Last spring, OPI released their Coca-Cola Collection. It consisted of 9 soda-inspired shades and you can see my review post here. This spring, they've released a new Coca-Cola Collection under the Nicole by OPI brand. There are 6 soda-inspired shades (no polishes for Vanilla Coke and Cherry Coke this time) and I'll have that full swatch post up this weekend.
In the mean time, I thought it would be interesting to compare the 6 Nicole by OPI shades with their OPI counterparts. (I've obviously excluded the 3 OPI polishes that don't have counterparts in the Nicole by OPI Collection.) Let's take a look!
I've used two coats of each polish without top coat for the nail wheel swatches below. I want to know which polish you think represents each soda the best! Please vote in the polls below each picture! (You can enlarge the photos by clicking on them if that helps in your decision.)
Coca Cola
OPI Coca-Cola Red is a a classic bright red creme.
Nicole by OPI Always a Classic Coca-Cola is a bright red with metallic shimmer.
I actually like both of these for representing Coca-Cola. I think it all comes down to if you prefer shimmers or cremes. Vote below for your favorite:
Favorite Coca-Cola Shade?
Diet Coke
OPI My Signature Is "DC" is a silver foil.
Nicole by OPI DC Lover is a silver foil shimmer with tiny red hex glitters.
I have loved the OPI since it came out and wear it for a lot of accent nails, so I think that will be my favorite. I do like the addition of the red for the can logo, but I still prefer the OPI. Vote below for your favorite:
Favorite Diet Coke Shade?
Sprite
OPI Green on the Runway is a duo chrome.
Nicole by OPI Seriously Citrus is a clear based glitter topper with the iconic colors from the Sprite can.
I wasn't seeing much "Sprite" from the OPI last year so I'm happy to see they've gone more blue-green for the Nicole. The Nicole by OPI wins it for me, even though I'm not a huge glitter fan. Vote for your favorite below:
Favorite Sprite Shade?
Coke Zero
OPI Today I Accomplished Zero is a black jelly base with red glitter.
Nicole by OPI Zero is My Hero is a deep blackened burgundy with gorgeous shimmer.
I still don't like the OPI very much, so was pleasantly surprised to see this gorgeous shimmer from Nicole by OPI. It's much more wearable and wins for me. Vote for your favorite below!
Favorite Coke Zero Shade?
Fanta Grape
OPI A Grape Affair is a deep purple creme.
Nicole by OPI In Grape Demand is a medium plum purple creme.
Although I think that both work well for Fanta Grape, the winner for me is the Nicole because it's in my favorite color family. Vote for your favorite below:
Favorite Fanta Grape Shade?
Fanta Orange
OPI Orange You Fantastic! is a yellow-orange jelly base with orange and silver glitters plus some texture.
Nicole by OPI The Look is Orange is a squishy orange creme.
It's no surprise that the OPI was the least favorite of many polish lovers with the last collection. Putting the glitters in a clear base would have made it so much more wearable-- the tinted base made it hard to layer. The Nicole is a simple win for me. Vote for your favorite below!
Favorite Fanta Orange Shade?
What did you think of these comparisons? Do you have a clear winner for overall collection? Please vote in the polls and leave any comments below. Thanks so much for reading! Check back over the weekend for my full swatch post of the Nicole by OPI Coca-Cola Collection, releasing at select CVS, ULTA Beauty, Kmart, ShopKo, Harmon, and Giant Eagle locations in March 2015 for $6.99.
*All of the polishes in this post were sent for me to review with my honest opinion.
What a fun post! OPI Coca-Cola Red may be my favorite polish ever (gasp...!) and I can't wait to wear that shimmery brown!
ReplyDeleteThis was so fun! I liked 90% of the Nicole by OPI shades!
ReplyDeleteOther than the Sprite shade I prefer the NOPI ones.
ReplyDeleteOther than the Sprite shade I prefer the NOPI ones.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I thought it was pretty strange that they re-released this collection with new polishes. I did end up liking the NPOI polishes more.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the NOPI the most! Except for the diet coke shade.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacki, thanks for doing this post! I'm sure many of us were wondering why OPI would release a similar collection one year later, and I appreciate seeing the comparisons. ;[
ReplyDeleteLoved this post!! I really like a few of the OPI shades but I think overall the NOPI collection wins.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! Such a unique and creative idea! I always like comparisons but I also really enjoy seeing other people's thoughts and how they compare to my own. Overall, I prefer Nicole by OPI's collection... I think they're just more fun and wearable.
ReplyDeleteI love this post!!! I've never seen anyone do this before. Overall, I think the Nicole opi polishes are closer to a true match of the cans.
ReplyDeleteI loved this! It was fun voting and seeing which one we chose. I can see by my results alone that I need the Nicole collection. The red by Nicole was a match for the can and I prefer it to the red creme from OPI.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually really liking this Coca Cola Collection a lot more than the OPI collection, and am kind of surprised by that!!

ReplyDeleteI prefer most of the NOPI shades, except for "Today I accomplished zero", that it was the only polish that I picked up. I love it, specially with a matte top coat :)
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I prefer the NOPI side, which very much surprises me but I can't deny those shades are amazing.
