Tutorial Tuesday: Cute Alien Nail Art!

Good afternoon, readers! As promised, here is this week's tutorial on my cute alien design! I wore the alien on my accent nail and had galaxies on the rest of my nails in a similar color scheme. There are double the amount of steps in this tutorial than needed if you are working with non-shimmers or colors that are more opaque. I did a lot of opaque cremes and then layered a sheer shimmery polish in the next step because I wanted to have a sparkling alien. Feel free to use whatever colors you would like on your own alien!

Here is a sneak peek at the step by step process, there are full sized photos and instructions further down in the post.

In case you missed the post on this look, you can find it at the link below:

Let's begin!

Polishes used: China Glaze That's Shore Bright, Pahlish Sarey's Berry, Barry M Greenberry, Indigo Bananas Immortal Game, OPI Angel With A Leadfoot, OPI Girls Love Diamonds, OPI My Signature is "DC," OPI Black Onyx, Elevation Polish Pic du Gar.

Tools Used: thin nail art brush, 4 sizes of dotting tools.

Step 1) Paint your nail with two coats of China Glaze That's Shore Bright.

Step 2) Paint one coat of Pahlish Sarey's Berry. (note: my camera hates this and its much more pink toned in person. See full mani photo above for color accuracy.)

Step 3) Use Barry M Greenberry to draw a circular shape on the bottom half of the nail.

Step 4) Use your thin nail art brush and Barry M Greenberry to do swirly antennae on the top of the head. If you don't feel comfortable doing the swirls, straight lines would still work perfectly.

Step 5) Use your second to smallest dotting tool and Barry M Greenberry to dot the end of each antennae.

Step 6) Using Indigo Bananas Immortal Game, go over all of the parts done with Barry M Greenberry to add gorgeous shimmering flecks.

Step 7) Use your largest dotting tool and OPI Angel With A Leadfoot to do three large eyes at the top of the alien face.

Step 8) Go over the white eye dots with OPI Girls Love Diamonds and the same dotting tool to add shimmer.

Step 9) Use the second to largest dotting tool and OPI My Signature Is "DC" to make silvery dots in the center of the eyes.

Step 10) Use your smallest dotting tool and OPI Black Onyx to do the small pupils in the centers of the eyes.

Step 11) Lastly, use Elevation Pic du Gar and the thin nail art brush to do a simple smiling mouth. Feel free to do any shape mouth you prefer on your alien.

Don't forget to add a thick, quick drying top coat to protect and seal in your design! I prefer Seche Vite, H K Girl Top Coat, or Poshe.  Put a thick bead of top coat on the brush and gently spread it toward the tips and sides, taking great care to not let the bristles touch the polish underneath. Thinner top coats can cause streaking or bleeding of the colors and the bristles drag lines through the design. YOU'RE DONE!
