Farewell, Parks and Rec!

Good morning, readers! I'm a day behind but I wanted to join in with The Lacquerologist and some others and bid farewell to Parks and Recreation. The big series finale was last night and I can't wait to watch it tonight with Mr. Adventures In Acetone. It's always sad to see a favorite show come to a close, but I am still anxious to watch the final episode. I'll be happy for closure and I hope they wrap up everyone's story lines.

I decided to take one of my favorite moments from the show and translate it onto my nails! Season 4, episode 8 is called The Smallest Park. It's the place where Ben and Leslie, ignoring how it will jeopardize their careers, decide to just be together. The scene starts with them agreeing it would be best to go their separate ways--but at the last minute they say screw it and kiss in the park. Such an emotional roller coaster for me as a viewer because I thought for sure they would be done for good. So, YAY!

13 Days Of January, Day 2: Happiness! (Sprinkle Cookie Nail Art)

Good afternoon, readers! It's day 2 of our 13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge! Today's prompt is Happiness and I was struggling to find a good topic of inspiration for this mani. Tons of things make me happy but don't translate well onto nails so I went with a simpler idea: cookies. Cookies make me happy. Even for my birthday a few weeks ago, I requested cookies over a cake for my celebration. The prettiest cookies for nail art were rainbow sprinkled, so here we are!

Good morning, readers! A group of blogging friends and I have come together for a modified version of the Crumpet's Nail Tarts 31 Day Challenge for 2015. We will have a lot of similar nail art prompts, but just 3 times a week (because, new nail art every day for a month stresses me out!). The good news: this will bring tons of nail art to Adventures In Acetone for the month of January! It's been years since I've done a challenge that wasn't with The Digit-al Dozen and I really hope I will be able to keep up and enjoy it as a great start to the new year.

For day 1, our prompt is Follow A Tutorial. This was a no brainer for me, I still have the wonderful Idiot's Guides: Nail Art book by The Lacquerologist sitting on my nail desk with tons of tutorials to try out. In case you missed my full review on the book, click HERE (it's available for pre-order right now, and officially releases on Tuesday!).

15 Best Nail Art Manis of 2014!

Hello!! I'm back! It's been a busy and fun week or 2 so I apologize for the quiet here on the blog. We've had lots of family time and holidays to celebrate-- my 28th birthday, Christmas, Mr. Adventures In Acetone's 30th birthday, and yesterday was our 9th wedding anniversary! The second half of December is always a bit nuts around here but I love it! Now that it's starting to slow down, I'm ready to get back into painting my nails and posting for you all! The end of the year is near, and I like to look back and reflect on all of the manis I've worn this year. I've narrowed them down to my 15 favorites so let's take a look!

Emily from The Lacquerologist published a BOOK! That is just so awesome and I couldn't be happier for my fellow blogging friend! I received a copy of Idiot's Guides: Nail Art to review and share with you all today because it's full of nail art tutorials! With over 75 tutorials and categorized by difficulty level, there is something for everyone to try. Emily is a nail technician at her own nail spa so there are also really informative pages about nail care, polishing, gel polish, nail art basics and more. I've followed one of my favorite tutorials from the book as well, so let's take a look!

Octonauts Nail Art!

Good morning, readers! If you follow me on instagram (@adventuresinacetone), you saw a sneak peek of these nails weeks ago. I'm just now getting around to posting them on the blog for you.

I really challenged myself with this mani! It's been a long time since I've done intricate nail art on my right hand, and it's been forever since I've actually shown that hand on Adventures In Acetone. For one, it takes a lot longer and I hold my breath most of the time that I'm doing the nail art on that hand. Secondly, it is awkward to take pictures of that hand! Hard to hold the camera and hold the bottle, etc.

But, here we are! One of the favorite kid shows in our house is The Octonauts on Disney Jr. There are 8 main characters on the show so I knew I would have to do all 8 if I did Octonaut nails. The fact that even my one year old got super excited pointing and touching my nails made it worth it!(click here to see The Octonauts if you have no idea what show I'm talking about.)

My base is Elevation Dykh-Tau, a pretty seaglass holo. The characters are all done using polish, dotting tools, striper and detail brushes. I've topped it off with HKGirl top coat, no smearing!

And for an awkward pic that my hubby took for me that makes my right hand look ENORMOUS..lol:

Here are the close ups of each character:

Captain Barnacles Bear

Kwazzi Kitten

Peso Penguin

Shellington Sea Otter

Dashi Dog

Tweak Bunny

Professor Inkling Octopus

Tunip the Vegimal

What do you think? I loved these and wore them for days until they chipped. It was a fun challenge and turned out to be one of my favorite nail art manis I've done. Thanks for reading!
