Good morning! It's the first day of summer break over at my house so I'm showing you what I currently have on my nails. I was looking for some nail art inspiration so I did a general search for the term "nail art" on pinterest and guess what? CHEVRONS were dominating the page. It must be the current trend so I figured I would give it a go.

The Lacquer Legion, Reinvention: Steam Punk Nail Art!

Hello, readers! Have you heard of The Lacquer Legion? It's a monthly nail art challenge to connect the nail polish community and I am so excited I was able to find the time to join in for this month's theme! You can go check out The Lacquer Legion on Facebook for some more info. This month's theme was "Reinvention" and it took me a bit to decide what to do for that. It was so broad that it was troubling me but as soon as I asked the hubby, he told me Steampunk would be great because a big part of it is taking things and reinventing them.

I was really excited because I haven't done steampunk nails before and I had to figure out what aspect I wanted to bring to the nail art. Gears and clockwork are what I instantly thought of, as well as those neat blimp-looking air ships. I decided to go with a sketch of an "airship" for my accent nail and various gears on the other nails.

Swatch Saturday: Alter Ego Moonlite Serenader and Traffic Lite Stopper!

Press Sample

Good morning, readers! It's time for another Swatch Saturday and this week I'm featuring 2 polishes from Alter Ego Nail Enamel! You'll remember these other Alter Egos that I've previously reviewed below. One is on my top list of favorite indie polishes EVER: Beachcomber (which is sadly discontinued, but has a close sister polish if you missed out. That one is called Beachcomber Too).

Previous Alter Ego posts:

Today's polishes are called Moonlite Serenader and Traffic Lite Stopper:

Alter Ego polishes have a different base than other indie polishes so some settling can occur but some shaking mixes it right back up again. The base has been reformulated compared to some of my earlier posts and my newer polishes hadn't settled at all yet in the past few days that I've had them! Also, this awesome base makes everything dry to a satin matte finish so you get to wear the polish two ways: with or without a shiny top coat!

Let's start with my favorite of the two, Moonlite Serenader! Below is Cynthia's description and inspiration behind the polish:

"This girl loves a great Moonlite Serenader! She has to work in the city but gets back to the country whenever she can. She goes out after dark on a clear nite, settles down and soon becomes calmed by the sounds of the dark…leaves rustling, owls hooting, frogs croaking...nothing settles her soul or reminds her of her roots like this! Darker royal blue base with iridescent fine glitter."

These polishes really grab onto the brush and come out a bit thick so I prefer to wipe a bit more off of the brush and work with less at a time. They dry really fast and that makes it easy to wait for the first coat to dry before adding a second. I was really happy with how quick, even, and flat these dried compared to how they looked when the polish was still wet! I'm told a few drops of isopropyl alcohol can thin them if that's your preference rather than regular polish thinner. I, however, just applied straight from the bottle with no changes and you can see from my photos it was easy to apply with hardly any clean up.

I'm showing two coats below of Moonlite Serenader alone and then with 2 coats of top coat for a shiny finish as well. The iridescent green glitter paired with the blue base is stunning!!

Look at that gorgeous, flat, matte finish. I find that hard to do with most matte polishes.

And with 2 coats of top coat:

The iridescent glitters glow with added top coat!

Traffic Lite Tester is the other polish I've been sent to review for you. Here is the description:

"Traffic lites are the same as Christmas colors so you can't miss them! Usually very much needed just like our fingernails:) I have always appreciated traffic lites, even more these days since WI discovered these darn rotaries-I want my lites back!"

This is a full coverage glitter in a clear base that just screams "holiday time!" to me. I was going to layer it for you but you could barely see the base color because it was so dense! So, I am showing 2 coats below on my bare nail with and without shiny top coat. I can't wait to use this in some Christmas nail art! It's so dense that I think I'll be able to use it for striped and dots and other fun nail art designs! Again, as I said above, it's on the thicker side so wipe some off of the brush before applying and let dry before adding the next coat.

And with top coat:

What do you think of these two polishes by Alter Ego Nail Enamel? Do you prefer them matte or shiny?

You can purchase these at the Alter Ego Nail Enamel Etsy shop below! Don't forget to check her out on Facebook for upcoming...hint hint...discount codes in the very near future! Thanks for reading!

Swatch Saturday: Alter Ego Duct Taper!

Press Sample

Hello, readers! Are you having a good weekend so far? We got to swim in our pool in between some rain storms today so that was a nice time!

I have some swatches to share with you today of a new Alter Ego Nail Enamel. You may remember my other Alter Ego posts:

Duct Taper is the color of duct tape! It dries to an awesome satin finish with a slight texture. The pigmentation is awesome and is almost a one coater! I did two coats and am showing with and without top coat for you below. Alter Ego uses a unique base and the colorants settle upon standing. A few minutes upside down and/or some good shaking mixes it right back up and the application is amazing!

First, without top coat:

And with one coat of shiny top coat:

The top coat really brings out the shimmer!

What do you think? Every shimmer Alter Ego Nail Enamel I've tried dries to this awesome satin finish. It's like you get two polishes in one with the change from applying top coat. Thanks for reading!

New Nubs And A Fun Indie Pairing...

Hello, readers! If you follow me on Instagram (@adventuresinacetone), you may have seen my photo 3-4 weeks ago of a really low split on my pinkie nail...I'm talking WAY below the free edge. I've been patching it every few days with Orly Nail Rescue and this weekend it had finally grown out enough that I could cut it off. Of course I couldn't just have one super short nail, so I chose to nubbinize all of my nails! Thank goodness short nails grow back faster than short hair cuts! So for the next few weeks, we are going to embrace the nubs because nubs can be pretty, too!

Today in the mail, I received my first Cirque polishes! I have been dying over XX each time I would see it on someone's blog and had to order it for myself (along with Ophelia which I'll try out another day). It is such a gorgeous color and shape mix of holo glitters and I love it!! I chose to pair it with another of my favorite indie polishes, Alter Ego Beachcomber!

A simple mani, but I really like it!

Look at that gorgeous shimmer in Beachcomber!

I just die every time I look at this bottle shot.

I used:
Duri Rejuvacote
3 coats of Alter Ego Beachcomber
1 stripe of Cirque XX
Poshe top coat

What do you think of my simple mani? I think it's good for the new short nails.

Mommy's NOTD: Alter Ego Beachcomber and Elevation Daisen!

Good morning, readers! I have a quick post on what's on my nails this weekend! (We are away for the holiday weekend so I did this the day we were leaving and plan to keep it on while we are gone!).

Two indie brand polishes that I haven't posted about yet because they are new to my collection and I think they make a really neat combo! Alter Ego Beachcomber is a shimmery aqua blue(this color is so amazing, I think it could be my favorite out of my entire collection!) and Elevation Polish Daisen is a clear base with pinks and copper circle(!!!!) glitters with some gorgeous green and blue iridescent microglitters.

Look at this gorgeous glitter!!

What do you think? Seems like it would fit in with some mermaids or something!

Good morning, readers, and Happy Mother's Day to the mothers out there! I'm dedicating this post to my wonderful Mom, Jill! She is such an amazing and supportive mother and I couldn't be luckier to have her. I hope I am like her with my own children.

My Mom's nail debut on my blog!!

I used:
Orly Nail Defense
1 coat of Alter Ego Penny Pincher

Alter Ego Armed Forces Vet!

Hello readers! I am so excited! If you are on my Facebook page as well, you would have seen my postings about my friend, Cynthia's, new nail polish store: Alter Ego Nail Enamel. I was so excited when I was able to purchase and my order came today!!

I'm showing my favorite of her polishes today- Armed Forces Vet! As my husband is in the Army and is technically an "Armed Forces Vet" I couldn't resist this polish. But aside from the name, the small metallic red, iridescent white, holographic blue & holographic silver glitters were calling my name. Seems like the perfect glitter for 4th of July!!

I hadn't gotten to try out my Zoya Reva from a haul a bit ago so it seemed like the perfect red base for this mani!

A sunny picture. Look at the holo blue and silver showing on the pinky!

A shady picture so you can see the different colored glitters a bit better.

Close up

I used:
Base coat of Orly Nail Defense
2 coats of Zoya Reva
1 coat of Alter Ego Armed Forces Vet on my accent nail
Makeup sponge and Armed Forces Vet to do the gradient glitter tips
2 coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast

Would you believe that is only one of Armed Forces Vet coat over Reva on the accent nail? This is nice and densely packed glitter! The base is a bit on the thicker side but it wasn't hard to work with and it just made getting lots of glitter on easier. I am loving this mani!

Please visit Cynthia's online polish store to see what others she has available! You won't be dissapointed! You can find her shop here: http://alterego.storenvy.com/collections/69167-all-products

What do you think? What are you favorites in her shop? Thanks for reading!
