Born Pretty Velvet Manicure Review and Tutorial!

Hello readers! I have a really fun nail art technique to show you today! It's called "velvet nails" and is done using flocking powder applied to wet nail polish for a fuzzy nail look. I can't remember where I read it when this technique started coming out, but someone said it looked like they had "sweater nails" and I totally agree! It's such an odd feeling when I run my fingers over my nails, but I kind of like it! Hailey(4 years old) was watching me do my nails and begged me to please do it to her nails, too. I think I'll do hers today!

Born Pretty Store sent me this kit to try out, and it makes it so easy to have it all in one kit!

I'm going to show you how I did it!

Supplies included in the kit: base color, polish, flocking powder, tweezers, clean up brush.

Step 1: Apply base coat to all nails and let dry.
How pretty are these bottles?! (Ignore my orange stained nails! ugh)

Step 2: Apply one coat of color and let dry.
Look at the coverage of ONE coat of this creme polish. I'm impressed!

Step 3: One nail at a time: Apply second coat of color. Make sure it is a good thickness so the flocking has time to stick before it dries. While still wet, use tweezers to cover nail with a pile of flocking powder over your surface paper. Don't be afraid to use a ton, you will be able to save the excess. Make sure you cover the entire nail!

Step 4: Using your finger, gently pat down the pile of flocking all over the nail surface so it adheres better to the wet polish.

Step 5: Using brush, gently sweep away excess flocking from the skin around the nail as well as the nail surface. Make sure you are gentle when sweeping over the nail itself. It takes 10-15 minutes for it to completely dry(just an estimate) so you don't want to "drag" any of the polish off if you are too rough.

Step 6: Repeat on the rest of your nails. No top coat! This means you need to be careful for the next 10-20 minutes to ensure that it's completely dry.

Step 7: Roll up your paper surface into a "funnel" and pour the excess flocking back into the container to use next time!

Ta-Da! I can't believe how neat this is and I'm really liking it! I've had it on for 12 hours so far and it still looks great!

FUZZY NAIL MACRO! How fun!

Before you ask, YES you can wash your hands! They look a little odd for a minute while the flocking dries but they they are just as fluffy! I'd try to avoid getting cuticle oil and lotion on the nail surface, though. I put on my lotion before bed like always and they were a little less fuzzy this morning until I washed my hands again. They are back to normal now, though!

Tell me what you think of this technique! You can find all of the Born Pretty Store flocking velvet nail sets among other nail art supplies HERE. There are a TON of different colors!

Naild'it Charity Polishes!

Hello readers! I have a trio of beautiful scattered holo polishes from Naild'it to show you! These are three charity polishes for three causes, with 75% of the proceeds going to the corresponding charities. We have Ultimate Service for Disabled Veterans, Give Hope for National Breast Cancer Research Society, and Make Your Wish for the Make A Wish Foundation.

These were so hard to photograph the scattered holo because of the lightbox diffusing the direct light. I tried to get some shots out of the light box for you as well, but I think sunlight will show their true beauty in person. It's rainy all week here so I apologize for not getting any sunlight pics. Good thing they are all gorgeous even out of the direct light!

First up is Ultimate Service. It's a pale scattered holo yellow and applied very easily in 2 coats. I'm showing with top coat but it was shiny on it's own as well. It surprised me how much I actually liked this polish on! I'm not usually a yellow person, but this one is leaning a bit greener than true yellow so that may be why.

In the lightbox, the holo bits just look like shimmer.

Outside of the light box. You can see the holo bits showing best on my index and middle fingers above.

Next up is Give Hope. This is a gorgeous scattered holo medium pink with holographic hexes mixed in. It's so pretty, applied easily in 2 coats, and shown with one coat of top coat to smooth it all out.

Three different sized holo hexes as well as the scattered holo shimmer.

Out of the light box, trying to show the pretty scattered holo and holo glitters.

Finally, we have Make Your Wish. This is more complicated than the other polishes, a blue with scattered holo shimmer, dark blue hexes, and holographic hexes, moons, stars, and big circles. Very pretty! I applied three coats but two could  be enough depending on how thick your coats are. Shown with top coat to smooth out the bigger glitters.
In the light box, the holo shimmer looks silvery!

Trying out of the light box to show off the scattered holo and holo glitters!

What do you think of these polishes? Which is your favorite? These polishes can be purchased from the Naild'it Etsy Shop for $12 each(don't forget that 75% goes to charity!).

Make sure you follow on Facebook for information on the next shop opening to purchase!

Deborah Lippmann Razzle Dazzle Comparison Post!

Hello readers! My post is super late for the day because it has been a crazy one! I've had these pictures since I took them this morning but this is the first time I've had to sit at the computer and write up for you.

In my previous post, I mentioned that I thought Shimmer Marilyn was similar, yet more red toned, to Deborah Lippmann Razzle Dazzle. I got to swatch them side by side and I was right! Both needed 3 coats and a good top coat because they dried gritty. Both have the glowy glitter but the tones are different.

Which color do you prefer? Thanks for reading!

Saturday Shimmer Spam!

Hello readers! I have the other 8 Shimmer polishes as promised to show you today!

Carol is a copper/gold, blue, and black glitter polish. Not really my favorite Shimmer color combo but I bet this would look better over the right base color. I'm showing three coats alone below with one coat of Shimmer Glass top coat.

Katherine is a bronze sandstone macro glitter polish. I love this one, it's great for fall! This is three coats below with one coat of Shimmer Glass top coat.

Lorene is one that surprised me when I put it on! It's a raspberry jelly base with lots of different colored glitters. I'm only showing 2 coats below with one coat of Shimmer Glass top coat.

Marilyn is another beauty! It's a burgundy jelly base with red microglitters. It really glows from within and once I applied three coats, I realized it seemed like a redder version of Deborah Lippmann Razzle Dazzle. I think I'll do a comparison for you for the next post! Three coats with one coat of Shimmer Glass top coat.

Rochelle is a red and gold glitter polish. It is gorgeous for the holiday season! I can't wait to try it in some Christmas themed manis! I'm only showing 2 coats below with one coat of Shimmer Glass top coat.

Tiffany is a mix of pink and blue glitter. The pink is more of a "rose gold" shade. Interesting color combo. I'm showing two coats with one coat of Shimmer Glass top coat.

Wendy is a mix of purple, copper, and teal glitter. Very cool color combo! I'm digging it! This is three coats with one coat of Shimmer Glass top coat.

Vicki is a really pretty and feminine pink and silver glitter mix. It makes me feel like a fairy princess! I'm showing three coats with one coat of Shimmer Glass top coat.

What do you think of these 8 Shimmers? Which are your favorites and least favorites? If you've missed them, here are my other posts on Shimmer polishes:

Each bottle retails for $12 and you can even order a custom polish for $15! You can find that listing HERE in Cindy's Etsy Shop.
