Swatch Sunday: Zoya Paradise Sun Collection

Press Sample

Good morning, readers! Yesterday, I showed you the creme half of the new Zoyas for Summer 2015,  The Island Fun Collection. Today, I have their shimmery metallic counterparts: The Paradise Sun Collection. Fully saturated with a gorgeous micronized metallic sheen, these shimmering beauties are much like sunshine sparkling on water. Meant to be used as an independent color, these shades feature a full-coverage, densely pigmented formula. Let's take a look!

Swatch Saturday: Zoya Island Fun Collection

Press Sample

Good morning, readers! Zoya released their Island Fun and Paradise Sun Collections last month for Summer and I'll be showing you both this weekend! Today, the Zoya Island Fun Collection: Ready for an island vacation, these playful creams embody a tropical getaway! They are strong in color to balance the brilliance of the summer sun, with a flawless cream formula. A few weeks ago, I showed you nail art using these cremes--they work really well in nail art because they are bold and opaque. Let's take a look at full swatches!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Geometric, Day 4: Elspeth McLean Inspired Dotticure

Good morning, readers! It's the fourth day of Geometric Week with The Digit-al Dozen and I'm really excited about today's design. I've been hearing and seeing tons of posts over the last month or so online about the artist named Elspeth McLean and I've fallen in love with her work of dots on stones. Here is her Facebook Page so you can see what I mean if you are unfamiliar. Her use of dots and colors is so cheerful and inspiring. I've done my best try translating a similar design onto my 2 accent nails today. They aren't nearly as perfect or intricate as Elspeth's work but I still like how they turned out.

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Childhood, Day 4: Sandcastles!

Good morning, readers! It's time for my fourth Childhood Week mani with The Digit-al Dozen. Who didn't love making sandcastles at the beach (or in a sandbox) as a kid? I grew up on the east coast of Florida so beach days were often and a fun memory of mine. We recently moved back here so my own kids are getting into building sandcastles now as well! Zoya Godiva Pixie Dust was a fun additional layer over the sandy parts of this mani, giving it a sandy texture and extra sparkle.

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Childhood, Day 1: Power Rangers!

Good morning, readers! It's time for this month's Digit-al Dozen nail art week! The theme is Childhood and I can't wait to see the versatile manis from the group this week. This is such a fun theme and it can go so many different ways--from things reminding us of our own childhoods, things that remind us of our own children, things that are just child-like in general, etc.

My first mani is inspired by a tv show that has been around for YEARS, with many different series themes. It's the Power Rangers! It debuted in 1993 and you can find 20+ seasons on Netflix today. My kids, Hailey (6.5) and Owen (2.5) are obsessed with them. They pick Power Rangers more often than any other show during their tv time--and their favorite series is Power Rangers Samurai.

I've recreated the 5 main Samurai Power Ranger helmets on my nails for today's look.

Floral Half-Moons with Zoya Eden!

Good morning, readers! I have a fun mani for you today that I created for the Zoya Spring Nail Art Challenge! I love half-moon manis, especially if the half moon is some form of nail art. For this look, my half-moons are simple florals that complement the pink base (Zoya Eden from the spring 2015 Delight Collection). Although this would work well on all nail lengths, I think it really shines on shorter nails by bringing the attention to the cuticle instead of the nail tip. Continue reading below for a complete tutorial on how you can recreate this easy spring look.

TGIF! It's Friday, it's Friday! It's a boat day for us, so I've scheduled this post ahead of time and will hopefully be out enjoying the sunshine and waves when you get to read this. It's the final day of Nature Week with The Digit-al Dozen and today's mani is possible thanks to another awesome tutorial in Idiot's Guides: Nail Art by Emily from The Lacquerologist. I hope you've enjoyed the other nail art book inspired manis this week. I can't recommend this book enough, and that's my 100% total honest opinion.

As we have discussed before, florals are not my strong suit. I'm working and practicing though, so I was excited to try these Hydrangeas after looking through the book again. This tutorial can be found on pages 116-117 in the Intermediate Designs section.

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Patterns On Patterns, Day 2: Vera Bradley Mocha Rouge Nail Art!

Good morning, readers! I have a fun manicure for Day 2 of Patterns on Patterns Week with The Digit-al Dozen! Instead of trying to come up with a random pattern combo, I looked in my closet at my Vera Bradley purse collection and found a great example of patterns on patterns! I've recreated this floral on floral design called Mocha Rouge and I love how it turned out!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Patterns On Patterns, Day 1: Beehive Nails

Good evening, readers! It's the start of a new nail art week with The Digit-al Dozen. This month's theme is Patterns On Patterns and it's certainly a challenging concept. I'm starting out the week with a subtle stamped honeycomb pattern topped with simple bees arranged like polka dots. I've used one of the new OPI Hawaii Collection polishes as my base because they all arrived on my doorstep this morning and I couldn't wait to try them out!

13 Days Of January, Day 11: Complement and Contrast (Dotticure)

Good afternoon, readers! The 11th prompt for the 13 Days of January challenge is Complement and Contrast. I have no love for complementary colors. There, I said it. I decided to go for more of a contrast using a neutral base and bright colors in this mani. Zoya Rowan from the new Naturel Satins Collection is a gorgeous taupe with a low-sheen finish and I knew it would work perfectly as the base in this mani!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Winter Wonderland, Day 5: Gingerbread House!

Good afternoon, readers! It's the final day of Winter Wonderland Week with The Digit-al Dozen! Today's nail art was inspired by a gingerbread house! Do you make them at home? We haven't yet this year, but it's something on our list to do very soon! I used textured polishes for the candy and icing to give it a little extra depth.

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Thankfulness, Day 2: Nail Polish Friends

Good afternoon, readers! Its Thankfulness Week with The Digit-al Dozen and today I am thankful for the many awesome friends I've met over the past 3 years in the nail polish community. I started blogging when my husband was deployed to Afghanistan with the US Army. It was a lonely time for me, even with a couple friends and Hailey being a 3 year old at the time and keeping me busy during the day. I had so much free time on my hands at night when she went to bed that I found myself sucked into the world of nail art and a few nail art groups on Facebook. They turned into my online family and I am still good friends with some that I've known since the beginning.

For today's nail art, I've recreated a nail art look by one of my closest nail art friends--Ashley from Ashley Is PolishAddicted. It just so happens to be her BIRTHDAY today, so it's perfectly fitting! Happy Birthday, Ashley!
