DIY Dupe: Elevation Polish Angels Are The Yetis Of The Clouds!

Good morning, readers! I have exciting news to share with you! I've done some comparisons and layering experiments and I've figured out a DIY dupe for recreating a similar look to the very limited edition Elevation Polish Angels Are The Yetis Of The Clouds!! I know it's not the same as owning this gorgeous polish, but its a bit of a consolation prize if you can create a close enough look, right? Continue reading to see how I did it, and how it compared to some other polishes in my stash!

Swatch Saturday: Color Club Safari Garden Collection!

Press Sample

I have a new collection by Color Club to show you today! The Safari Garden collection has a mixture of cremes, a frosty shimmer, and a glass fleck. Earthy safari tones are a stand out in the sea of pastel spring collections I've been seeing all over. I like that!

Swatch Saturday: Color Club The Uptown and East Austin!

Press Sample

Good morning, readers! It's Swatch Saturday and this week I have 2 of the polishes from the new Color Club Girl About Town Collection! A bright coral creme and an amazing flakie polish!

The Uptown and East Austin.

Let's start with East Austin. It's a gorgeous, vivid coral creme and I love it! I'm showing three coats below with top coat. It seemed a bit bright for a fall collection but I really loved wearing it so I'm glad it's part of the collection. No issues to report.

Onto The Uptown. It's an amazing full coverage flakie polish. The base is a blurple jelly and needs 2-3 coats if wearing on it's own. I'm showing three because I wanted it a bit darker. The flakes change colors from green to gold and then red when you turn your nails. I was quite impressed with The Uptown and especially liked how smooth the flakes laid flat on the nail. Shown with top coat.

You can see the color change in these 4 pictures below as I turned my hand a bit more for each one:

Are you seeing this macro? Gorgeous!

What do you think of these new fall polishes from Color Club? You can find these for $8 each at the Color Club website. Also, I see that they have these two packaged together in a duo set for only $12!

Don't forget to "like" Color Club on Facebook to keep up with news and new release information!

Tutorial Tuesday: Omnom Nail Art!

Hello, readers! It's time for your weekly tutorial! This week it is the cute candy loving monster named Omnom from the popular app game, Cut the Rope. (If you don't know what I am talking about, go download and start the fun now! It's addictive and he is just the cutest little monster!)

Here is a preview collage of this tutorial, you can find full sized pictures and instructions further down in this post.

Here is a flashback to the full mani I've previously posted:

Things needed for the tutorial:

OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons, Color Club Twiggie (in my post, I used Ulta Limelight but I don't have that one anymore so this was close), OPI Alpine Snow, OPI Black Onyx.

Striper brush, detail brush, round end of a cleanup brush for a "bigger dotting tool," and a small dotting tool.

Step 1) Paint 2 coats of OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons.

Step 2) Use either the detail brush or the bottle brush in Color Club Twiggie and make a rounded shape with a flat bottom. I'm not sure how to describe this body shape any differently LOL.

Step 3) Use your detail brush and Twiggie to make little lumps for the arms and legs.

Step 4) Use the detail brush and Twiggie to make the little antenna on the top of Omnom's head. It's like a curved line with a dot on the end. You could use a dotting tool to make the dot if that is easier.

Step 5) Use OPI Alpine Snow and the end of your cleanup brush(acting as a big dotting tool) to make two big eyes. Make sure they touch a bit in the middle.

Step 6) Use your striper brush and OPI Black Onyx to make a smile from one side of the head to the other.

Step 7) Use your detail brush or end of the striper brush with Alpine Snow to make 4 upside down triangles for teeth.

Step 8) Use the striper brush and Black Onyx to outline the teeth.

Step 9) Use your small dotting tool and Black Onyx to make the pupils of the eyes.

Step 10) Use your striper brush and Black Onyx to outline the body and eyes. If you don't feel comfortable doing this step, I think he still looks cute in step 9 and you could stop there! It's up to you!

Don't forget to add a thick, quick drying top coat to protect and seal in your design! I prefer Seche Vite, H K Girl Top Coat, or Poshe.  Put a thick bead of top coat on the brush and gently spread it toward the tips and side, taking great care to not let the bristles touch the polish underneath. Thinner top coats can cause streaking or bleeding of the colors and the bristles drag lines through the design. YOU'RE DONE!

And, another gif that google+ added to my album for me, so I had to share! LOL

What do you think of little Omnom? Do you play Cut the Rope? Please share pics of your nails using my tutorials by tagging me on Instagram (@adventuresinacetone) or posting to my Facebook Page! Thanks for reading!

Digit-al Dozen DOES Tape Week Day 3: Hole Hearted!

Good morning, readers! I have the third design for the Digit-al Dozen Tape Week today! This was actually the final design I did (look at my teeny nubs, I had a break and decided to chop them all off short and start new) but I loved it so much that I bumped it up in the queue.

I was inspired by this Chalkboard Nails design using stripes and shapes from hole punches. I decided to go with the heart shaped hole punch and love how it turned out! It is very Anniversary or Valentine's Day appropriate.

  • I started with 2 coats of Enchanted Polish May 2013.
  • I then used a striping brush and both China Glaze Dandy Lyin' Around and Color Club Miss Bliss to make some vertical stripes.
  • Apply a coat of Seche Vite top coat.
  • I used my heart shaped hole punch to punch three hearts side by side in painters tape.
  • After my coat of Seche Vite had completely dried on my nails, I put the tape on the nail and firmly pressed down around the heart shapes.
  • I filled in the hearts with 2 quick coats of Picture Polish Focus and peeled up carefully before it dried.
  • Lastly, I applied another coat of Seche Vite to seal it all in!

Super easy and very lovely design!

What do you think? Thanks so much for reading! Come back tomorrow to see day 4 of Tape Week!

Red Dog Designs Swatches!

Hello readers! I have some gorgeous new polishes to share with you today! They are from the upcoming Red Dog Designs Ol' Blue Eyes Collection! They are all gorgeous, and I am lucky enough to have three to share with you!

Come Rain Or Come Shine, Young At Heart, and Let's Fall In Love.

Let's start out with Come Rain Or Come Shine! Gina describes it as, "various yellow glitter with iridescent color shift flakies and short slices, with holo silver and microfine glitter in two colors." I"ll be honest, I wasn't sure how I would feel about this yellow glitter but once I had it on, especially paired with Color Club Puccilicious, I fell in love. It's so unique to my stash and the holo even shows in my light box photos! That is saying a lot! I'm showing only ONE coat below with top coat. How awesome is that? So pretty and no issues at all!

So gorgeous, even in the bottle!!

Moving on, we come to Let's Fall In Love. It is described as, "holo silver and gunmetal hexes, with various shades of purple squares and purple micro-slices, with microfine pink holo glitter and purple hearts." Well, hello beautiful! This is a gorgeous combination of glitters and I've paired it with a base coat of SoFlaJo Silverado(which you will see in a post all of it's own tomorrow). This is 1 1/2 coats (I fished for some more hearts for the pics) with top coat. I have no issues to report.

Finally, we come to my very favorite of the group, Young At Heart. This just got a spot in my favorite glitter polishes ever! Such an amazing color combo, I am just dying! Gina describes it as, "various hues, shapes, and sizes of pink, lime holo, teal holo, white glitters, with microfine holo glitter and pink hearts." This is two coats with top coat over Sinful Colors Cool Gray. Seriously so in love with this, I've been wearing it a couple of days! You can't even see the holo in my pics, so imagine a ton of sparkle in person.

Just look at that bottle!!

What do you think of these gorgeous glitter polishes? You can get yours tomorrow, January 25th at 9pm EST!

Full sized bottles are $8.75 each. You can buy them here: http://reddogdesigns.bigcartel.com

Baby Shower Watermarble Nails!

Good morning, readers!! I was out of town this weekend for our baby shower back home in Florida and had an amazing time!! I wanted to share my nails from the shower because they were a huge hit and I loved them so much!

I saw them on Kayla's blog a bit ago and loved them so much I had to try and recreate them! Here is her original post. I didn't have the same colors but picked close ones and loved the outcome! My picture is a little dulled compared to them in person, though.

I used:
Orly Nail Defense
1 coat of Milani White on The Spot
Color Club Puccilicious
China Glaze Custom Kicks
OPI No Room For The blues for the watermarble
Dotting tool and Milani White on The Spot for the dot accents.
Top coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast

I only did 2-4 lines through the watermarble before dipping my nails and I actually loved how simple the design looked compared to my flower design or more complicated ones. The colors get to show thick enough and they didn't get muddy either. Love love love!!

And here is a pic from the baby shower. I'm still waiting on other photos from friends but this is my favorite one so far. It's me with my 3 awesome hostesses that threw the shower for me!

My oldest friend Jessica, my baby sister Chloe, me, and my Mommy!  Thanks ladies, love you!!!

Day 9: Child's Favorite Outfit Nail Art

Hello readers! I have another challenge day for you! This was a fun one, I had to think of what Hailey's favorite outfit was. I picked her favorite dress because she would wear it everyday if she could! It's a pink and coral almost-tie-dye design with a silver butterfly applique and a tutu!

Here is a picture of her wearing it when we picked up Daddy from the airport when he got back from an Afghanistan deployment in September:

Here are my nails that I tried to match to the dress:

It's a bit hard to see where I sponged on the pink over the coral.

I used:
Orly Nail Defense
2 coats of Piggy Polish Pinking of You
Color Club Poptastic and a torn makeup sponge
Pure Ice Silver Mercedes and a MASH plate for the butterfly
Cult Nails Wicked Fast

What do you think? I wish you could see 2 colors more in the mani. But I like it :) Thanks for reading!
